Skillpoint Alliance graduates highest number of women manufacturing students
Major manufacturing companies are coming to Central Texas, bringing a need for more skilled workers. The Texas Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area estimated over 3,500 manufacturing jobs in Austin alone.
Skillpoint Alliance is working to fill the employment gaps by offering plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and Certified Production Technician (CPT) programs.
The organization graduated a dozen students on Friday; 25% were women, the highest number of women students in its history.
Jasmine Lee is one of the three women to join the Central Texas manufacturing workforce. "I feel like this is a step that can show women, 'Hey, if I can do it, you can, too. Don't be afraid,'" Lee said.
Students like Lee walk away with a CPT certificate, a skill set hard to come by for employers.
